Rickey D. Crawford Jr. arrested in Diaz homicide investigation

Rickey D. Crawford Jr. has been arrested in Diaz during an investigation into a woman’s death. Deputies took him into custody following a vehicle crash and a subsequent search on Saturday night.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Amanda Michelle Crawford. Crawford Jr., 40, lives in Tuckerman.

The Diaz Police Department asked Jackson County deputies to assist at a crash site. The wreck occurred near the Diaz Scrap Yard on Saturday night.

Deputies arrived at the scene. Crawford Jr. made a statement that raised suspicion.

The information led deputies to a residence in Campbell Station. Inside the home, deputies found the body of Crawford.

It appears she was stabbed multiple times. Jackson County Sheriff’s Captain Ricky Morales confirmed that detail.

Her body will go to the state crime lab. The facility will determine the official cause and manner of death.

A county detention center processes and holds people facing potential criminal allegations. Arrestees remain held there until initial court appearances take place.
