Enes Kanter Freedom gets private suite in Atlanta over safety concerns

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom secured a private suite in Atlanta for protection at a basketball final. The venue arranged the secured luxury area following his direct outreach regarding his personal safety at the game. The plan applied to Game 3 of the WNBA Final between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries.

Freedom contacted federal, state, and local authorities about his safety, arena officials stated. He also reached out to the league and team management before the Wednesday night game.

Arena leaders coordinated with league officials and security teams to set up the separate space. State police assigned an officer to Freedom at his request. Extra security monitored the room.

Freedom announced his plans on social media on Monday. The appearance marked his first league game since late August. Arena staff had ejected him during a prior matchup between Chicago and Indiana. Officials banned him from that building following an interaction with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

Freedom said comments by Golden State star Gabby Williams motivated his recent visit. Williams previously stated she supported trans athletes playing in the league. Freedom said her comments prompted him to declare for the draft as a woman.

Former player Royce White also declared for the draft alongside Freedom. Both players stated that they identify as women. A person familiar with the decision told reporters the players are not eligible. League commissioner Cathy Engelbert made that stance official.

Freedom shared a photo from Atlanta on Wednesday. He also shared a letter Engelbert sent to Indiana Rep. Marlin A. Stutzman. In the letter, Engelbert stated that only women may enter the league. She wrote that both Freedom and White are men. Kanter questioned that statement online.

Professional arenas work with law enforcement to manage event operations. Security teams often coordinate private viewing spaces during high-profile disputes. Facility managers adjust building access to ensure public safety during championship games.

State Farm Arena hosted the event in downtown Atlanta. The game proceeded under the planned security arrangements.
