Cooper Riley Camferdam charged in Hot Springs jail beating
Cooper Riley Camferdam faces a new battery charge in Hot Springs before his upcoming trial. The jailed teen now faces two separate violent attack cases in court. He remains behind bars.
Court records show the 18-year-old from Malvern is held on a $500,000 bond. An alleged January brawl at a gas station left a 20-year-old victim in the intensive care unit. Police said Camferdam jumped on the victim’s head during the parking lot fight.
The victim suffered a fractured skull during that earlier assault. Camferdam faces a charge of first-degree battery for the incident. His attorney obtained a continuance for a November trial date in that case.
A detention center camera recorded a new attack inside the facility in August. The reporting officer stated he saw Camferdam charge an inmate in a dayroom. Camferdam struck the man with closed fists.
The inmate pulled his shirt over his head to protect himself. A third inmate pushed both men into a nearby cell. Camferdam allegedly continued hitting the inmate for about two minutes.
A facility nurse examined the injured inmate following the altercation. The report concluded the victim “is expected to require surgical intervention for his injuries during the following week.” Medical staff made arrangements with a local hospital in Hot Springs.
Court records show the August battery charge was filed on Oct. 2. Camferdam faces a charge of second-degree battery and an additional $5,000 bond. A judge has not yet set a hearing date for the incident.
Battery charges in Arkansas involve intentional physical harm inflicted on another person. Detention facilities file incident reports with prosecutors when inmate violence occurs behind bars. Courts schedule separate hearings for each distinct criminal complaint.
The Hot Springs court will handle both criminal cases in separate proceedings. Camferdam remains in custody pending his upcoming court dates.
