Bill Clinton and Jerry Jones speak at Little Rock club
Former President Bill Clinton and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke together Monday in Little Rock. They shared memories from their past encounters in public life.
The appearance took place during a special meeting of the Little Rock Touchdown Club. Both men took the stage at Simmons Bank Arena.
Clinton served as president. Jones also played football as a former Razorback.
Both men grew up in Arkansas. They recounted shared moments from their careers.
One story involved a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl victory during Clinton’s presidency. Clinton welcomed the team to the White House.
Clinton recalled a comment from defensive end Charles Haley during that visit.
“So we’re at the White House, we’re having a reception, and Haley comes up to me and says, ‘You know, I may be the only one here who actually voted for you,’ but he said, ‘They do like you, though,’” Clinton said.
Jones concluded the event with a major financial gift announcement. The Gene and Jerry Jones family donated $10 million to the Clinton Foundation.
The money will fund updates to a local facility. The funds support the modernization and renovation of the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock.
The Little Rock Touchdown Club hosts sports gatherings throughout the year. The group regularly invites prominent regional figures to address members.
The event closed after the gift announcement.
