Comments 0 Marcus Whitfield 1 min read

Officer Franklin Jiles faces criminal charges in Jefferson County following an off-duty shooting case. Police leaders placed the officer on administrative leave during an internal review.

Jefferson County deputies responded to a shooting in the Sulphur Springs area on Oct. 5. Authorities then arrested Tarqi Jefferson. He faces charges of a terroristic act along with several other felonies.

Deputies also arrested Jiles from the Pine Bluff Police Department. Jiles is charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution. He is also charged with furnishing a weapon to a felon.

According to the department, Jiles was off duty when the incident occurred. The incident happened outside the city police jurisdiction.

Internal reviews allow law enforcement agencies to evaluate whether staff members followed professional standards. Administrative leave with pay remains standard procedure during official inquiries. This process protects administrative integrity.

The shooting investigation remains under the jurisdiction of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with questions about the incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
