Delmor W. Erwin remains returning to Little Rock after 84 years
The remains of Corporal Delmor W. Erwin are arriving in Little Rock for military honors on Friday. The Arkansas World War II veteran died in 1942 as a prisoner of war in the Philippines.
Erwin was 20 years old. He died on Nov. 26, 1942, following the notorious Bataan Death March. Erwin earned a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for his service.
Advances in forensic science led to identifying his remains, according to officials. An airport arrival in Little Rock is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9. A dignified transfer will take place at the Delta Cargo Building.
Arkansas State Police and the Patriot Guard Riders will escort the casket to Roller-Chenal. Services are scheduled on Oct. 15 at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.
A 21-gun salute will occur outside the church between 2:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. The public is invited to attend the services, Roller-Chenal officials said. The full obituary is published on RollerFuneralHomes.com.
Military escort teams coordinate with local law enforcement agencies to transport returned service members. Dignified transfers provide formal honors upon arrival at regional cargo facilities. Community organizations often assist police escorts along designated motorcade routes.
Erwin spent 84 years away from Arkansas before this return to Little Rock. Local residents may pay respects during the church ceremonies.
