Conway Sport Clips aims for haircut world record to help veterans
Morgan Furgerson is leading a Conway hair salon drive to break a global haircut mark. The seven-day styling marathon raises money for military veterans and first responders. Staff members want to finish 1,800 haircuts before the scheduled deadline.
The existing world record stands at 1,600 haircuts completed over seven days. Stylists have finished just over 500 haircuts so far. Around 1,100 clients still need styling services with three days remaining.
Furgerson said the shop still needs help to hit the target. “We still need a lot of support and people out here,” Furgerson said.
The salon donates six dollars from every MVP haircut package to charity. The money goes directly to Help a Hero and the University of Central Arkansas Foundation. The haircut fundraiser has already generated more than $3,000.
The Conway salon hosted a 101-year-old veteran for his birthday on Tuesday. Other veterans and patrons joined the celebration inside the barbershop chairs. Furgerson said several veterans came out to support him.
The styling team presented the guest with a birthday card and his favorite cake. “Honestly we were all kind of in awe just having him here,” Furgerson said. Customers signed the card during their haircut appointments.
Hairstylist Kelse Moore praised the salon clients for participating. “Every client signed his birthday card on the way out,” Moore said. The veteran sang a song for the crowd before leaving.
“He decided to sing and honor us with a song,” Furgerson said. The event brought joy. Time runs short.
Hair salons offer grooming packages that combine standard haircuts with shampooing and scalp treatments. Fundraisers allow styling businesses to support community groups through daily customer services.
The Sport Clips shop operates at 563 Elsinger Boulevard in Conway. Stylists have three days left to reach the 1,800-haircut goal.
