Toledo Lawyer Faces Felony Counts in Jail Contraband Investigation
A lawyer who defends clients in northwest Ohio courtrooms is now a defendant himself: Toledo attorney Phillip Carlisle faces two felony counts tied to a contraband investigation at the Lucas County Jail.
County prosecutors charged Carlisle by bill of information with two felony counts of obstructing official business — a route that starts a criminal case without a grand jury indictment. The case could also cost him his law license.
The Lucas County Sheriff’s Office conducted the inquiry before turning it over to prosecutors. The 13 Action News I-TEAM obtained 28 pages of investigation reports covering video footage, inmate interviews and recorded jail phone calls; Carlisle appears several times in those reports, and investigators say he was captured on video during the events under review.
No court date has been set. Court records list no attorney for Carlisle, he had not returned calls seeking comment, and the Lucas County Bar Association has not commented on the case.
