Amanda Patton of Maynard received a prison term following her guilty plea, state officials announced Wednesday. The decision resolved a felony case involving the exploitation of an impaired adult in Randolph County.

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announced the resolution on Wednesday. Patton is 46 years old.

She pleaded guilty Oct. 19 to one count of felony abuse of an endangered or impaired adult. The judge sentenced her to 72 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Her term includes an additional 84 months of suspended imposition of sentence. She must pay restitution as a condition of that suspended term, Griffin said.

Patton served as power of attorney for the victim, according to Griffin’s office. She took more than $84,000 from the victim’s accounts. She spent the money on multiple vehicles, recreational vehicles and other personal purchases.

Griffin credited Special Agent Laura Glover and Assistant Attorney General Corinne Kwapis for their work on the case. They work within the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the attorney general’s office. He also credited Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Devon Holder.

The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigates allegations of abuse or financial exploitation involving vulnerable adults. The unit handles cases statewide, including matters originating in communities like Maynard. Staff members pursue criminal charges and seek restitution for victims.

The unit receives 75% of its funding through a federal grant, Griffin said. That grant comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The total grant reaches $4.96 million for federal fiscal year 2027. It includes $3.72 million in federal funds. Arkansas general revenue covers the other 25%, providing about $1.24 million for state fiscal year 2027.
