Three Little Rock police officers relieved of duty in camera misuse
Three Little Rock police officers were removed from their roles following an internal audit, according to Mayor Frank Scott Jr. They were relieved of duty with pay during an ongoing inquiry into system misuse.
An audit of the department’s license plate reader cameras revealed the issue, Frank Scott Jr. said in a statement. The audit found that three department officers misused the camera network. Scott stated the inquiry remains ongoing.
Interim Chief Michael Miller will change how the Little Rock Police Department monitors the setup. Audits will now happen monthly rather than quarterly, Scott said. The system uses license plate readers across Little Rock to track vehicles.
Internal reviews typically track officer logins to ensure proper official use of police databases. Departments often audit technology records to detect policy violations.
The officers stay on paid leave.
