Fleeing driver faces charges after crashing into Damascus building

Comments 0 Marcus Whitfield 1 min read

A driver crashed into a commercial building in Damascus after fleeing from law enforcement on Thursday. A medical helicopter evacuated the injured motorist to a local hospital following the wreck. Officials did not release the driver’s name or age.

The incident began around 1:53 p.m. in Greenbrier. Faulkner County Sheriff’s Department deputies received reports of a hit-and-run crash. Deputies soon spotted a vehicle matching the description from the scene.

The car was traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies said the motorist drove recklessly away from the initial site. They attempted to catch up with the speeding vehicle.

The fleeing car passed other traffic in the center of the five-lane highway. It traveled north before hitting a curb on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle rolled over several times.

It then collided with a brick commercial building in Damascus. Nobody was inside the structure during the impact. The driver suffered injuries in the collision.

Deputies investigate traffic incidents and enforce state laws across county jurisdictions. Fleeing law enforcement often results in felony charges and vehicle seizure.

Officials said the driver is expected to face charges. These include felony fleeing, reckless driving, speeding, improper passing and criminal mischief in Damascus.
